Overview for the week of 8/21

This week we will cover concepts of ecology such as Carbon, Nitrogen, and Water cycles, which show how matter is cycled throughout the ecosystem. How communities in nature rebuild themselves through succession. How populations grow and change based on the interactions between living and non-living factors in the ecosystem.

We are taking a field trip to Sweet Water National Park to apply our knowledge of contour drawings and practice in nature. Students will have the experience of being inspired by nature to create art using the concepts and strategies they've learned this semester.

Welcome Back!!

Hello Students and Teachers,
Welcome Back to the 2017-18 School year! This is Biology/VA Comp and we have already gotten started infusing the elements of Art with Scientific Thinking and Problem Solving.

Lat week: We learned...
* The 7 elements of Art: using an individualized descriptive application of the Elements. To further expand our knowledge we started and will continue this week using the R.A.F.T strategy to demonstrate understanding through kinesthetic motion.

* We learned that we use the Scientific Method more often then we notice. We worked through real life problems and created probable solutions and worked in multiple types of groupings to identify, apply, modify, and solve a variety of simple and complex problems. We practiced strategies to help us understand and answer word problems completely.

This week:
* We will take the Biology Pretest
* Practice F.A.T and O.P.T.I.C strategies with various art and Biology concepts.
* Finish the Elements of Art RAFT activity
* Continue maintaining our Interactive Notebooks (organizational practice)
* Introduce concepts of Ecology through the Oh Deer activity and vocabulary practices
